I was late!

Yes, you read it right, I was late, for my wedding that is. An hour and a half late. Due to reasons I could not avoid and imagine would happen at my wedding day.

For those of you who yet do not know, a bunch of soldiers decided to stage a "coup d' etat", taking over Oakwood hotel in makati last Sunday, July 27,2003. And because of this some dimwit made the decision to close the northbound tollgate at Calamba for security reasons. So there was no way for anyone to pass through Calamba, and this created a massive traffic jam. (Oh I forgot to mention that the wedding was to take place in Alabang and I with my family and Ninong and Ninang would come from Los BaƱos). And the wise people who thought of the bright idea to close the tollgates did so at around 12 noon. For what? They closed Calamba but the other northbound exits were open and passable. Yes I know Calamba is a major entry/exit point, but, HELLO! makati and Calamba are still effing far from each other. They could have closed or just put up a major checkpoint at bicutan or sucat, which is more strategic.

Believe me, and I know I can brag about it and a lot of people would attest to it, I drive fast. But I guess even any racecar driver, Tommi or Schummi even, could break or pass the traffic jam that fateful day.

I eventually got to the hotel, albeit an hour and a half late. We had to go through old and narrow roads, literally cross a wooden bridge, and once again come close to my dream of becoming a WRC driver, with my Mom as my "navigator". Just sitting there, and I'm sure just praying silently and keeping her mouth shut, just trusting my driving. (My trusty car didn't fail me, my car that my wife once called a "rust bucket", I really got hurt when I heard that, but that's another story). I broke a lot of speed limits, crossed a red light and arrived at the hotel, getting the attention of the drivers outside, wondering who this a@#hole was, speeding and making that drifting turn around the corner. (I knew all the years I spent of practicing drift turns, "skwala", would come in handy).

So I arrived, got wed, and had the greatest time of my life. (I'll write about my wedding in detail some other time).

A side note: I have no bad blood against those soldiers who did their thing last Sunday. I understand them. (I was even making jokes earlier that Sunday that the soldiers didn't get my orders right, they got the wrong hotel! I specifically told them B and not Oakwood!)
They believed they were standing up for something. I believe in idealism. What I hate is the incompetence of people, of not thinking critically, and of people taking advantage of their subordinates, clouding their brilliant minds with trash for their own good.
